Why Is Islam So Popular With Black People?

A lot of black people become Muslims and say its because Christianity is a religion invented by white people but then Islam wasn't invented by black people so how is adopted Islam empowering? Why aren't they embracing African tribal religions or religions that have their origins in tribal traditions like Voodoo? Nothing against black people, Muslims, Christianity, or Voodooists I just think its odd that so many (not all but many) black Muslims say they became Muslims because Christian is a "white religion" when Islam itself was invented by Caucasians(Arabs are caucasians).
