Can I work while I am waiting for my PR?

I am married to a Canadian & we are still starting to process his sponsorship.I wonder if I can work & go to school while we are waiting for the sponsorship to be done. I feel bored doing nothing if it will take so long to wait for my open permit...Please help me what to do?
