Model car paint help?

Ok so I've just finished a really nice '71 Plymouth 'Cuda model car. The body is painted a dark g pearl color in acrylic model paint. I found some high gloss clear coat that I'd like to use on the car to keep little nicks n scratches to a min ( I own 3 cats, nothing stays untouched on shelves with cats around) the only problem is the clear coat is enamel. So here's the question: can I safely use the enamel clear over an acrylic base coat without ruining the base??
